A fast paced science fiction and fantasy hybrid adventure that feels like a cross between Farscape and Forest Gump both incredibly enjoyable as is this. The main character Charlie is thrown from one situation to another as fate spins out of control around him flinging him from one desperate situation to another while he does his best to keep his head down and do whatever it takes to survive in a new galaxy where the common sense from his entire life has been flushed down a magical toilet. The book is made up of underlying arcs which despite some of the other reviews claims do have an underlying plot and cohesion. However it does feel very much like the author was pulling ideas about what should happen next with dice rolls or from a bag with votes inside then writing his plot around those, or very much like a 90’s sci-fi (like Farscape as exampled above.) where each arc would be an episode so the overall story advances but they all have their own sub-plots to advance the story as well. Honestly I enjoyed it greatly and thought the narration was fantastic. I couldn’t even bring myself to write this review for the first book until after binge listening to the first 3. Highly recommend.
