Daughter of Death is a fascinating look at three realms existing together – that of heaven, hell and earth. Evangeline is a fallen angel living on earth for centuries, and she gave up her profession as an assassin because her soul has too much goodness to continue. She lives completely away from the paranormal world, owns a bar and lives with her succubus best friend. Her life is completely disrupted when fellow fallen angel Xai drops into her bar with a request to meet with the ruler of the underworld. Eve and Xai have had a love/hate relationship for eons, and he only secures her agreement with blackmail and threats. After being given one week to prove that she is innocent of the murder of the underlord’s daughter, Eve and Xai embark on an exciting and action-packed journey through earth and hell to find out what is really happening in the paranormal world.

Although the world building and action in this book are outstanding, it is truly the characters that make this book so special. I absolutely loved Evangeline. She is such a conundrum of traits – at times vicious and bloodthirsty and equally kind and loving at other times. However, she is always strong in mind, body and spirit as well as a smart ass in the truest sense. I was very conflicted about Xai until close to the end of the book. He was so cruel to Evangeline throughout their relationship, and I still had difficulty not wanting to throttle him even when the author reveals the reasons behind all of his behavior. Luckily, Eve and he make the perfect team, and never have two main characters more deserved their HEA.

Other than two short chapters, the entire book is narrated by Sarah Puckett because the story is told from Evangeline’s point of view. That said, both narrators performed incredibly well, and I thought that their skill added to my overall enjoyment of the story. I am already a big fan of Sarah Puckett’s narration, but I will definitely be watching for more from Tristan Hunt in the future.

I received a copy of this audiobook at my request in exchange for this honest review.
