I really enjoyed this first book in the Z-Burbia series. It is somewhat different from many other zombie books as it is centred on life and survival in a suburban compound many years after the zombie apocalypse occurred. I loved the unique ideas in this story and the political structure of the post-apocalyptic HOA was fascinating and brutal. I loved the believable and sometimes bizarre characters, the secrets, intrigue, losses, challenges and battles in this book. The narrator did a great job of bringing out the emotions, humour and tensions in the story. There is lots of gripping action, some surprises and a fair bit of gore (as is expected in a zombie novel). I enjoyed the wry humour mixed in with the desperation and struggle to survive. I will definitely look forward to seeing what happens next.
