Fantasy action/adventure m/m romance. Fantasy is not usually one of my favored genre’s and this story was good, but not great, but the superb narrating skills of Joel Leslie made this sci-fi tale a joy to listen to.
I love a well written m/m romance, but usually prefer contemporary. Mr Leslie’s narration made this historical fantasy story fun and engaging.
The story is about Mouse, a pint sized alpha male who is sort of a gun/thief for hire who is hired to rescue a wrongly imprisioned nobleman for a neighboring ducchy.
Most of the action takes place within the walls of the castle where Garron was being held and their ensuing twisty harrowing escape while being chase by a variety of bad guys.
What gave the book a little higher rating for me was Mouse. He was a terrific alpha hero with snarky comments galore, quick thinker and professional thief with vulnerable heart of gold.
The romance aspects were not that exciting, I didn’t get much sense of connection between Mouse and Garron and the insta-love wasn’t very convincing., However, the story as a whole kept my interest to the end.in large part because of Joel Leslie’s narration.
