Alexis Hall is an amazing craftsperson, able to imbue their characters with depth, grace, vulnerability and realness. The entire series was expertly written with much passion and intelligence. Hall often stuns with the seemingly endless well of their skill, their humour and their attention to detail. But, frankly, the subject matter of pain/pleasure through punishment and kink was not all that appealing to me, and it’s a preference I neither understand nor am particularly aroused by, either. And the now familiar trope of the billionaire swooping in to save the poor student—only to have the student end up saving the billionaire right back—has been done so many times that It’s become tedious. And Hall deftly nods to Pretty Woman in a not so subtle acknowledgment of this. Expertly written, yes, and engaging and skillful, it just wasn’t my cup of tea at the end of day. Leslie, as narrator, saves the day, of course, as he ALWAYS does. And thank G-d for him.
