Having only been in on the MM Romance genre scene for a year means I have a treasure trove of new to me titles, series, and authors to explore. I discovered ANW in the Spring after reading a book she co-wrote with one of my favorite gay authors. That is when I began my love affair with the “Curl Up & Dye” series. While I haven’t finished all the books in that series, I have read enough to know who everyone was, who was mentioned in, Unscripted Love Book #1 of a spin-off series of Curl Up & Dye.
While the story takes place in Blissville, Ohio, not everything is Bliss-filled. Take the small town’s vet, Kyle, who has decided perhaps it is time to settle down and start a family. Too bad he can’t seem to find anyone with the same desires. Sure people find Kyle attractive and many are okay with him for a hook-up, but Kyle is looking for something more personal and permanent. Enter Chaz Hamilton, sass extraordinaire.
Chaz works at the local hair salon with his two best friends and currently is crushing on his hairless cat’s, Harry’s, vet. Chaz also has a moonlighting gig that he is keeping secret, even from his BFFs.
Kyle and Chaz do a back and forth because of Chaz’s secret that as time passes compounds and becomes bigger than he ever thought it would. As with many secrets they can and often do cause pain and do damage that can’t be undone.
Though angst is present and I wanted to smack me some fellas a couple of times, there is a balance of dramedy, and steaMM so you are left with your heart all squishy and stuff.
Joel Leslie did a phenomenal job, as always, on the narration and gave Kyle, Chaz, and the rest of the cast just enough UMPH to make them fully actualized. ? I cannot wait to dive into book two, but I think more CU&D is a must for me first. ?
