The Last Warrior of Unigaea is the first book in a new LitRPG series, a genre that I’ve come to really enjoy over the last year or so. This is the first book by Harmon Cooper I’ve experienced, but it definitely won’t be the last. I’ve already picked up a few more by him. Really like the main character and his motivation for embarking on the quest he is on, though it seems an even larger quest is looming for him with epic world scale consequences so I’ll be eagerly anticipating the next volume in the series. Great story that was action packed, and despite the fast pace of the story there was still plenty of character development, and by the end I was fully invested in the characters. Look forward to learning more about Deathdale in future volumes.
For the most part the book is narrated by Jeff hays, who has quickly become one of my top 5 (perhaps top 3) narrators and when I think fantasy or sci-fi, his is one of the first names that springs to mind and I know if he’s attached to the project I am going to enjoy it. He has a real knack for bringing a wide array of characters to life. I don’t know if he does all the production work solo or if he has a team working with him, but he/they do a fantastic job, adding in little extras that elevated his recordings and increase the sense of immersion compared to so many others. An example? Okay, how about this, in one scene the main character is talking in a people in a large room from the top of the stairs, he actually adds a bit of echo into the recording so it really does sound like he’s in this massive room with the sound bouncing off the walls. he’s done similar things in other recordings I’ve listened to. Annie Ellicott is also listed as a narrator, and while she only does one character I must say I was quite impressed with her. This was my first time hearing her work, but I will definitely be on the look out for more of her work
