I read Ann Rule’s book The Stranger Beside Me a few decades ago and only recently listened to it on Audible. It was a very good book then and still still is. However, this telling of the Bundy murders is more detailed and less about his relationship with other people (Ann Rule) and more about his methods, his M.O., and the psychology behind his brutal crimes against women. I did have to fast forward a few times through the most gruesome details of what these poor women went through before and after death. Don’t let that stop you from listening to this story about Ted Bundy, it delves deeper into his psychopathy, his desires, his ability to manipulate in almost any situation, and into the brutal acts themselves. I learned of several things that are never mentioned in Ann Rules book and I know this because I just finished listening to that one three days ago. I specifically began listening to this so I would be able to compare. This is a completely different view of Bundy and his crimes even though the crimes themselves have not changed. Very little filler, which is present in The Stranger Beside Me (not a fault as I think that book is good as well), just very detailed facts.
I’ve never read anything else by this author but would love to read a version of the Tate/LaBianca murders in this same format of details and psychology behind the murders as he did with this book.
Excellent book.
