So as I said in the title, I think this book is pretty good. It is a fairly nice western take on the popular japanese genre isekai. I am aware that Japan did not invent it, however it seemed to hit all the checkmarks on the list. Fantasy world? Check. Videogame mechanics or stats? Check. Main character gains some kind of power or role special to them? Check. What differed this from typical isekai, was that it was actually well written. The only part of the book I did not like, was when a character, (I won’t name any names jere to avoid spoilers) had sex with the main character, and it came so far out of left field that if you asked me, it must have come from the planet Mars. Now I’m no Puritan so I’m not opposed to sex in any form of medium (besides children’s entertainment of course) but often times these things have to be built up to, or at lesst make sense. It was among the only things I did not particularly like about the book. It made me feel like the main character was a self insert, such that you could self insert with him and feel that you too earned yourself the sex. The main character’s personality is also something that has not been explored all too much in this book, which leaves thinking that he could have been built as a self insert in the first place. However, this is merely 1st book, and perhaps one of the more hectic and unstable parts of the journey. Perhaps in the second book he will reveal more about himself and what kind of person he is. Overall though, I think the story was weaved together very well and the premise very interesting.
