absolutely great series. I read the whole thing through years ago, and coming back to it now that I don’t remember it that well and it’s still great.
however now that I’m an hour in I wanted to clarify to the author that the reason prisoners were made to break rocks into smaller rocks is because roads are made from gravel. somebody has to make the gravel. it’s back breaking extremely tiring work for very small amounts of money gained. very cost effective to make prisoners do it.
