While this is the second book in the series, it is standalone, though there are a lot of the same characters that were featured in the first book. Ypu won’t need to read or listen to the first book to enjoy this, but I do recommend it. Also, this book is less based on Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice, though there are some references to Jane Austin characters.

That said, this story is quite light, romantic, dramatic and fun to listen to. I didn’t take it too seriously and I wasn’t looking for an authentic historical experience. Amelia and Anthony are well suited, and due to circumstances out of their control, got married quite early in the story. I was a little concerned that the rest of the book would be a bit dull. But, in true Regency style, there are hints of scandals, a bit of bending the rules, and more. Overall, it was fun!
