This end-times tale is full of useful bits of survival information. Of all the post-apacolyptic books, it is the most instructive, about the middle for story, and highly entertaining. The author could have extended the story a good deal longer, perhaps over several more books, but seemed to tire of the characters by book 3. Shame I think.
