The first book was okay, the main character, Cen, was kinda likeable and sympathetic. Aunt Pearl, who is a major character, is intended by the author to be a quirky, fun character, but I find her very manipulative, bossy, and unkind. I found Aunt Pearl to be so unlikeable, that I didn’t finish the third book. Her machinations are persistent throughout each book. Plots are weak and only moved unpleasantly forward by Aunt Pearl. I wish Cen’s mother was a more influential character.
Narrator is okay, can readily differentiate between characters.
As a person who loves re-reading good books, I returned this box set. There will be no nostalgic reruns here. I will be more cautious buying books by self-published authors.
