This is a good value for a nice series. The characters could be fleshed out a bit more, the romance – what there is of it – is incredibly chaste (not sure why an old elf is romantically appealing to a 20-something witch, and it’s not really made clear except maybe “fate”).
I will admit I don’t love it when men narrate books with a female protagonist, but Mr Hays does a pretty good job. (Interestingly, in book 4 there is a female main narrator with Mr Hay’s contributing the male vocals: hate to say it but I liked the way Mr Hays did the whole thing better!)
