I enjoyed the adventure, excitement, and unique forms of magic in this book, but I wish I had read or listened to Book 1 first. I felt completely lost at the beginning of the audiobook as it gives no summary of any of the characters, where they are, or how they got there. That said, I enjoyed the main characters Jason and Henry. Even though they are frequently snarky with each other, it was clear they really are best friends. The secondary characters, especially Maureen and Ululu are great fun and a source of humour too. Thirsty was fabulous, and I loved when he had his heroic moment. The journey was entertaining and I cared about what happened to all the characters. I also laughed out loud on occasion. The book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I think I’ll explore Book 3 next, then go back to the beginning for Book 1.

Jeff Hays is a great narrator. He really captures the spirit and attitude of he various characters, and he gives them all distinct voices.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
