Turbulent, the first book in TL Payne’s Days of Want series, is a wild and often brutal adventure. The adventure starts when America is hit by a devastating cyber/EMP attack, and Turbulent hits all the beats you expect from a good apocalyptic thriller: great characters, a collapsing society, and a harrowing tale off survival. Like many books in the genre, the story is told from various perspectives. While it mostly from the perspective of a single family all currently separated from each other. The mother is in an area that still has power but had no way of getting to her children, a son who is off on a school trip and and a daughter who is flying home. We also get a bit of the story told from another pair of siblings-brothers/thugs, one of who is a drug addict. In addition we also get a look at the bigger picture with short chapters that offer us a glimpse at the surviving government…and let me say that things aren’t running smoothly. The story is action packed and at times fairly brutal. Society definitely crumbles quickly. I enjoyed this story quite a bit and am quite interested in seeing what comes next…especially in terms of the bigger picture. Will outside forces invade and take advantage of the chaos?

Kevin Pierce is definitely one of the best narrators out there and I’ve come to consider him THE voice in post apocalyptic survival fiction.

I was given a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
