In the opening chapter of this story, I was a bit horrified and wondered why I had chosen this book; however, it soon became apparent that this was a story of survival. I became fascinated with how the main character had prepared — and prepared his family — for what he considered inevitable at some point. I also admired his calm character, which I felt was relayed well by this reader. All of the characters were credible and likable. I will remember some of these things to think about in my own emergency preparedness, and I’m definitely going to check out Volume II.
