I was looking for something to listen to in the background while I code. This was almost bad enough I didn’t want to listen to it at all. although, I did finish it. so cool premise with the whole old man point of view but, it felt alot like the stereotypical plot line of alot of Korean and Chinese webtoons and manga. like ” I was trash.” for example. basically a beaten down disheveled person rises up to unexpected power Deus ex machina. except those are fast paced enough and can have pretty enough art style to be interesting. this was like that except what made those webtoons good this lacked. the pace was agonizingly slow. like I can only hear about the dude talk about his cultivation so many times before I just don’t care. yea we know he’s great now how about you give us some interesting scenes where he can show it instead of telling us. I did not mind the action though. that wasn’t poorly written. however, how the main character went from caring old man to merciless brutal killer felt a bit jarring. then again the author might’ve been going somewhere with that. idk. I just know I won’t be giving him the benefit of the doubt with the purchase of the sequel. with how little actually happened in the entirety of this story I feel like most would have a better time if they listened only to the first hour and the last and supposed the entire middle as he meditated and got stronger.
