The story is fairly simple, not very descriptive and the dialog feels like its one person just trying to think of other personalities would be like and some are cliche and generic. However, it’s an overall decent story and I did enjoy it well enough. It was a nice straight forward linear story. And while it did follow two different characters, it always moved forward or catch you up on the other character. I’ve been listening to incredible stories that follow increasingly more and more viewpoints through all their own story arcs like A Pattern of Shadow and Light by the ingenious Melissa McPhail (Rest in Peace). It was.a nice change of pace to have a nice easy listen that sucks you in enough to stay engaged without making you have to really focus on every word out of fear that you’ll miss something critical. I do recommend you listen to it if you’re looking for a carefree read. it’s no “Choas Seeds: The Land” or “He Who Fights Monsters” and is right below “Dragon Seed” in quality. performance is good. This studio always does a good job even though the narrator always does the same voice for the main characters. But he’s a good voice actor nonetheless and so is the female actress.

enjoyable audio book overall
