that was on of the most disgusting books I’ve ever read. I kept thinking it was going to be one of those stories that end up showing the long term effects of abuse and SA. But no, this is a book about a pedophile and his victim.
after adult after adult saw this perverted relationship, and turned a blind eye, I thought for SURE that was going to be addressed. nope. the only “Karen” type of adult in the entire book was the Aunt, who was trying to protect a literal child from abuse. even the police were nice and supportive! just nasty.
I would also like to mention something that is also absolutely disgusting. the fact that the younger brother literally swam and slept with his older, naked sister. and watched a grown man fondle his sister. or the fact that these children were exposed to drugs, violence, and sex. all that, a no long term effects from going through that amount of trauma, untreated. ridiculous.
I still can’t believe that’s how it ended. not with her going to therapy. not with the family and friends learning about the long term effects of abuse and neglect. nope. they all accept the relationship and everything turns out fine.
