Despite its title, the overwhelming majority of this book is not focused on providing relief to the OCD sufferer but rather on detailing a medical journal-voiced diagnostic of the OCD brain processes. Like many medical professionals-cum-writers the authors default to a communication style that is aimed for their peers and not for their patients. Thus the book pontificates about the amygdala for four hours before injecting the first three-minute relaxation exercise as a highly clinical afterthought.
Is the medical science sound? Yes….but to offer an analogy, if someone needs to learn how to change a spare tire, they are not necessarily looking to hear a four-hour explanation of load-capacity and torque-ratio calculation first.
