Normally I wouldn’t feel the need to review a book I don’t enjoy beyond the star rating but man the reviews for this thing were glowing. Look, I won’t spoil this by diving into all of the issues I have with the plot but it’s DEFINITELY not worth a 4-5 star rating. I could see people liking this when they’ve exhausted every other good litrpg book and find themselves searching for a little background noise but wow.

The main issue with this book is that the author cannot write compelling characters. Seriously, not a single one. The protagonist is a miner of (I think) unspecified age who had an adventurous streak? Great. He also has the emotion depth of a toddler. Less great. I can’t say he has zero character development as there is a token scene where he “changes” for the better. Does he face any consequences or have hardships that result from his flaws beyond the very first chapter? Nope, not really! The love interest does get a little upset with him though and wow, how tense! The terror of a love interest completely devoid of character being upset with you!

There are a few gems in this genre but it is over saturated with highly reviewed poorly written material that would be better found in an amateur light novel. Why do people review this so highly? This isn’t on the same level as the best of this genre. Not even close.
