Often disability in fantasy has a myriad of shortcomings, and the beginning of this book I felt a sense of hesitation bc I thought it was another one. But I am very happy with how this story is written and would recommend this book.

It turns out the setting is a closed world that views the mc shortcomings as a disability, and he is treated that way. But the world mech doesn’t make him disabled, just maybe a late bloomer. I like it and see a lot of issues like perceived hinderances and community crippling shown honestly. I like the pacing and setting of the story. And as an adventure fantasy it is very engaging. The narrators ability to portray characters, tone and inflection are all outstanding and make the listener want to read the entire thing in one sitting.

The magic system is a bit complex and confusing, but for plot understanding it gets reinforced throughout the story.
