I almost never give up half way through. Will usually tough it out to the end. But seldom does a book get incrementally worse with each chapter.

The premise for the story is super interesting. The book hooks you in the beginning.

Then things start making less sense. Characters get more annoying, less intelligent, and less likable.

Author has a hard time developing realistic interesting drama, so he instead makes the Characters extra dramatic about dumb BS.

The main character engineer never really solves problems. He says “I’m am engineer, I should be able to solve this” but then just magically chances his way through every problem. Happens so many times!!

Imagine living in a mediocre cul-de-sac with mediocre people then trying to survive the end of the of the world with them and their petty problem and broken brains.

Most of the story ends up being “everybody makes bad decisions, pissing each other off, annoying the reader, but then things work out for them in the moment”.

You can tell many character details and actions were made to fill plot hole. Instead of not fixing the plot holes lazy writer just fill them with unnatural prose.

Half way through I just wanted everybody to get taken out. Even the occasional decent humor couldn’t keep me listening
