The story starts off fairly quickly and has a really good pace. The overall structure of the story in what were 3-4 segments of the family’s saga after a devastating event really worked for me in keeping the story moving while slowly exploring different pieces of the backstory. I like seeing the shifts in the leads adult characters from the world that was and the world that is and how/where they are trying to keep their principles and where they realize they need to change. The kids on the other hand, I’ve never hated characters as much in a story as I did the two main kids in this one. Anytime they opened their mouths or did anything I just wanted to reach into the book and strangle them both. If that is anything what having kids is like, very glad I don’t have to deal with that. This is the 4th book I’ve heard from Kevin Pierce and is quickly becoming my number 2 narrator for my books.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
