The overall energy of this series is melancholy, a bit dark, but this mood fits the story line perfectly. There are occasional moments of humor, though, that help lighten the mood, especially when they pop up unexpectedly. One thing I love about this series is that the characters occasionally say a quick prayer: for forgiveness, guidance, help, and/or for their loved ones. I find this to be one of the most human aspects of the storyline. Regardless of their faith beforehand, most people turn to God in dire circumstance such as these and I’m glad that the author chose to include it.
