We’re up to Book 6 of the ‘Hell’s Ankhor’ series. The books in the series do build somewhat on each other as far as external plot is concerned, but each one focuses on a different member of the motorcycle club and can easily be read by itself with no issue. For me, since I’ve listened to a few of the previous books, I’ve become invested in the over-arching plot involving all of the previously introduced characters.

Each book offers a different dynamic between the couple being featured. This one has a little bit of a Dom/sub vibe to it. It doesn’t get very heavy and is a major plot point to the character development. Dante likes to take control, in and outside the bedroom. He’s unsure that inexperienced Heath will want that type of relationship so steers clear at first. Heath, meanwhile, feels like he’s ready to trust someone who wants control. Can these guys express their individual wants and needs well enough to find the balance they both crave?

The reader can expect, besides the romance, some MC action and (non-heavy) violence. There is tension in the relationship, but it’s caused by external factors more than failing to communicate. Angst is kept to a minimum, allowing the burgeoning relationship grow in a mature way. Ali Lyda and Aiden Bates have written another solid installment in their great romance series.

For the most part, David Allen Vargo’s narration is great. The steamy scenes were a little over-acted, but he voices the characters well and his tone is appropriate for the story Bates and Lyda are telling.

I received a free review copy of this audiobook and have now written this voluntary opinion.
