This is definitely not one of Tj Klune’s more humorous, rom-com, shenanigans-laden books. “Murmuration” is about the journey, and going in blind is the best way to experience it. It begins as a sweet, romance set in a picturesque small town amongst the “dancing chaos” that Tj Klune weaves into the narrative and that shadows and clings to Mike Frazier. This is not a typical romantic journey and it is most assuredly not straightforward. However, if you like a compelling, intriguing story that manages to be absurdly sweet and unsettling, a bit dark and a bit hopeful and with characters that are so earnest and simple but epitomize human complexity then you’ll enjoy this book. Tj Klune said he “wanted it to be the most romantic thing [he’d] ever written”. . . I can only say that the reader will have to judge that for themselves once they reach the journey’s end.
