Covers like the one for this book automatically make me think of cozy mysteries. Do I like cozy mysteries? Only sometimes. I feel the majority of books in this genre I read/listen to have too many issues for my liking. As in unanswered questions, things that make no sense or ideas that don’t work for me, editing mistakes (or lack thereof), etc. I was a little hesitant about this one.; I decided not to read the blurb prior to asking for a code. While the green cover originally caught my eye, it was actually the title that reeled me in. I mean, how can you pass up a book with peas and carrots in the title, that’s not a cooking or gardening book?

I loved this story! There were so many funnies that I chuckled many times throughout this story (like when… I forgot the little girl’s name, but she was excited about finding a poisonous spider in the hotel bathroom); it was fast-paced, entertaining, and had great characters. My eyes even watered (just a tiny bit) during Norman’s funeral. That was a great scene! My only complaint was regarding Susie and her eagerness to believe Eric had done something bad (like cheating) when she found out he’d been going to work instead of getting the garden going, and before even questioning him, she had left. While I loved this story, finding out it was going to be part of a series… I’m left questioning what more could be said?! I don’t know though. I’d still be interested in book 2 given how well-written and funny book 1 was.

I almost forgot about the narrator. Rafe Beckley did a great job! This was my first time listening to him and I had no complaints regarding his narrating skills. I’d listen to him again. Nice work!

I received a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
