*Disclaimer* I’ve not read Ms. Walker’s Curl Up & Dye series, so these characters are/were all new to me. While I wasn’t lost per se, I definitely think it would have helped, just in getting to know the characters, if I had read that series first. But it won’t stop me from listening/reading the rest of this series- I’m invested now!

3.5*

I have to admit, the beginning of this book confused me a bit. Unfortunately that seems to happen sometimes with audiobooks, especially if there are jumps in time from the prologue to chapter one- it’s so much easier when reading to go back and quickly check to make sure you read something correctly, instead of having to “rewind” until you figure out where you needed to be! It took a couple of chapters, but then I was finally able to settle in to Kyle and Chaz’s story.

I thought Unscripted Love was a cute story, even with my issues with it. I really liked Kyle, Dr. Dimples. He was a sweetheart and I really felt for him. I liked Chaz, although he started to wear on me for a good part of the story- I wish he had come clean to Kyle much sooner than he did. His secrets, and always running out on Kyle, frustrated me, and made my heart hurt for Kyle. He didn’t know why Chaz kept ghosting on him and acting so weird. If Chaz had just owned up to what he had done, it would have saved them both the heartache. I am glad though, that Ms. Walker didn’t keep us waiting for too long, and didn’t leave Kyle wondering endlessly what he had done.

I enjoyed to banter between Chaz and Kyle, and how sweet they were together, when Chaz wasn’t hiding things! I loved the friendships and families- The Matrons are awesome! This book definitely made me want to read the CU&D series, especially those bonus chapters! And I’m really anxious for Emory and Jonathan’s story- I feel some heartache is coming!

Joel Leslie is once again terrific! He really brings such depth to each character, it’s pretty incredible. His narration really is in a league of its own.
