I’m confused by all the 5 star reviews. I’m the biggest spy novel fan EVER – and this one just sucked. I made it to chapter 14 or 15 but who would really know – the numbering is off so don’t lose your spot. The narrator mumbles everything even though he does have an interesting voice – that’s why I kept at it for a couple of days. His cadence is offbeat and weird. I found myself having to over concentrate just to stay with him. I started with Ludlum way back in the 70’s and tried hard to love Le Carre but that took years. He was so slow and everything seemed over my head as a young person. I thought maybe this author was Le Carre-like but I don’t think so. I think it’s just god awful boring. No action whatsoever. None. I’m actually bummed out and depressed.
