Book 3 wasn’t bad, and it continued on from the first two books well enough, but book 4 was abysmal. There are far too many factors that are thrown in that make zero sense, and I’m hesitant to say the MC’s intellect even rivals that of a 12 year old since I’ve met smarter 5th graders than him. There is also the fact that he seems far weaker than he should be given his rank and experience as an adventurer. The only logical reason I can think of for the majority of the issues that arise is that the author couldn’t think of an actual way to progress the plot and decided to just throw together a bunch of different things and hope it somehow works out. That, or he couldn’t settle on any one conflict idea and just used all of them. I’ll probably listen to the next book eventually, but not anytime soon.
