I recalled this case as occurring when I was a child in nearby Cheney but couldn’t remember the offender’s name until the suggestion for this title popped up on my Audible account. The storytelling evokes a vivid picture of Spokane from the ‘80s and true empathy for all the people Fred and Ruth Coe hurt in their skewed perspective of being “better than.” Even over 30 years later, the book holds up and when I mentioned to my mom I was listening to it, she recalled her original reactions to the trials and convictions as well as her enjoyment of the book.

Kevin Pierce is one of my favorite narrators with a deep, easy-listening voice made for both the somber and surreal turns true crime books are known for. The longer length was a bonus too as it makes me feel that I got a good value.
