It’s been over a year since my last meeting with the witches of the West family and it’s a fantastic comeback:)
Christmas can be tricky in every family, but when Aunt Pearl starts plotting you can expect almost anything…. except murder. But murder it is, and now Cendrine has to solve the case before a member of her own family gets arrested for the hideous crime.
It’s almost a “locked room” whodunnit this time, with the weather making it impossible for anyone to leave the crime scene and all the people present having a motif to kill. The plot is fast, secrets come out and turn the whole investigation round and personal animosities are an important part of the mix.
Aunt Pearl is her old self – liking to have the last word in every situation and, much as I like her, obstinate almost to the point of being stupid and irritating, Cendrine is still warm, loving and loyal, but she also discovers she’s a better witch than she’s given herself credit for so far. All the other characters retain their pesonalities and the new ones make an interesting addition to the old bunch.
Narration by Ms Burchard is great, too. She has a nice voice and does all the characters well. I especially appreciate her interpretation of Aunt Pearl – no-one could convey her annoying personality better, I think:)
