Lots to like in this LitRPG, which has all the usual elements of its genre: a well-described leveling and abilities system, meaningful stakes, unpredictable circumstances, etc.

Where Shade’s first rule excels is in having a main character that seems simultaneously destined to succeed and yet about to die any second. As a bonus, I found the humor to be genuinely funny and even the more tender moments seemed to work (plenty of LitRPG stories fail in that regard). And everything benefits from the great voice performance of Travis Baldree.

Note: If you’re not particularly interested in numerical stats, some of the leveling updates can get tedious, but it’s not overwhelming. Enjoy!
