I got this because of the summary and reviews made it sound like my cup of tea. I read and listen to a great deal of sci-fi and would rate this as some of the worst writing and storytelling I’ve run across in a while. I am not going to go into a lot of detail but I wanted to post a counter-point to all the 4 and 5-star reviews because I was not even able to make it through the first two stories much less 80+ hours.
The characters are shallow and dialog the so painful that comparing it to Firefly almost makes me want to cry. The universe building has a few interesting ideas but almost all end-up being handled is heavy-handed, boringly predictable ways. The characters are overpowered, mysterious and special in ways that make the storytelling uninteresting and remove any suspension of disbelief. It pretty much reads like a transcript of some early teens playing a space opera role-playing game.
Maybe it gets better but after investing about 6 hours into it, I just can’t bring myself to commit any more time to these stories.
