I put my audio book on & started my drive home Christmas Eve. Had to pull over when the narrator said the title & told me it’s book 2 in the series. Audible has it as book 3, but I couldn’t find book 4 when I finished 3 because what someone online said is book 4 is advertised as a companion book to the series. This book almost made me quit the series. I wish I’d read a summary of all the chapters until about 30 & started listening. I couldn’t muster up care for any of the characters, especially the drug lord & the anti-climactic story end for him. Bill’s story was ridiculous. Spends his entire life dedicated to his son & his son’s future to end up on the side of ones who killed his son’s family? Maybe I misunderstood something? I’m clearly the only person in the country who thinks the gravel voice of the narrator is awful & hard to follow. There is very little variation in his tone, even when trying to read conversations. I’ve never had to focus so hard on the narrator because it all kind of sounds mumbled together to me. All the females are read as though the woman is a child. Sophia sounds to be 10 & clueless. I’m going on to 4 because I loved 1 & 2 so much; although, a major weakness in ever book are the female characters. The authors could do themselves a favor to consult with female writers, because they are all weak & child-like & the storyline around them are awkward. They are so minor to the books that I don’t connect with them anyhow.
