So, this is book 3 in Carter’s Young Irish Rebels series and I think it could be read / listened to as a standalone but there are recurring characters and situations that make reading this series in order helpful. This is Richard and Claire’s story. It’s so dark and to be honest I had a harder time connecting and following these characters than I did in the previous reads but towards the end everything came together as it should which I loved. I think the dual narration was perfect, especially since we also got dual point of view thru out and I was swoony at the accent! I also really appreciate that Carter doesn’t make the mafia life dreamy but gritty, deceptive and dark. You never know who is loyal so betrayal should never come as a surprise and yet for me and this book – it still did – time and again. Definitely looking forward to more in these mafia romance, power play books – and keep the accents with narration too!
