The first time I saw the cover of this book, I knew that I would eventually read it. Once it was released as an audiobook, I had to give it a listen. And, I’m SO glad that I did!
This book effectively mixes body horror with a sci-fi feel to make a book that will stick with me for a long, long time. One way I judge a book is how much do I think about it while I’m still reading it and how long it stays with me after I finish. This book definitely does both of those things. In fact, I had to wait a few days to absorb what I had read and went back and listened to parts again just to make sure I knew what had happened.
There are some truly creepy/horror filled moments in this book and the psychological aspects added to the terror. It does have quite a bit of gore, but not enough for a wimp like me to give up on it. I think my only complaint is the way the story was presented. I didn’t really care for the podcast interview aspect and thought that it detracted from the overall story. As an audiobook, it was a little hard to follow the timeline since the story jumped from place to place a lot.
The narrator did a great job and added a lot to the tension of the book. I will definitely be looking for more books by this author and more narrated by this narrator. Great read for a true horror fan!
