Props to both Dennis Vanderkerken and Dakota Krout on their joint effort with the novel and true to form, Travis Baldree did a superb job on his narrating performance.
The MC was a middle-aged man who had all but given up on life due to his previous life experiences and the authors created a kind of Benjamin Button situation where he went through a quasi-rejuvenation transformation using cultivation magic in order to save those who were dear to him. While I found this a nice change of pace from the typical ‘coming-of-age’ fantasy themes, I was disappointed at them not including a better understanding of the MC’s backstory.
I have to agree with some commenters though that there was way too much focus on the MC learning how to cultivate which stalled the main story movement of saving his charges; although, Travis Baldree’s narration lessened the ordeal.
I look forward to book 2 of this series.
