I have read this book previously and the audio just made it even better for me. I love the series as a whole but I think this is tied with the first book as my favorite of the series. Black seemingly tries to pretend like what’s happening between him and Quill is just a flash in the pan but it’s clear right away that he’s much more vulnerable with him and their connection is much deeper than he’s able to admit at first. I love that he was so tough on the outside but it was obvious how much he loved Quil, and Quill was just hilarious and sometimes a bit OTT and overly forward but a lot of that was a defense mechanism too. They are probably my favorite couple of the series. The story as a whole on first read kept me on the edge of my seat and listening to it, it was like I could picture a movie of it inside my mind. I loved the combo of Philip Alces and Joel Leslie as well, they both did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and have done an amazing job with the series as whole, and making the characters distinctive. I know I will definitely be listening to this again and am hoping Davidson King expands this series even more, or does a spin off since I know the last Haven Heart book has been wrapped up. Still it would be nice to revisit.
