The Curl Up and Dye series isn’t new to me. I started to read it a few years ago. The first couple of books were… well, flawed. Not in terms of content, but the editing left a little to be desired. But I fell for Josh and Gabe and not to forget Savage. So I kept with the series and now I might just be a fan for life.
It’s in the middle of the night when Gabe gets a call out to a murder scene, but he wasn’t called strictly as a detective. Not only was it out of his jurisdiction, but the victim was found carrying Gabe’s business card in his wallet. Not long after that threatening notes and “gifts” starts arriving at the station, in Josh’s home and even to the local news room. As if that wasn’t enough ghosts from Josh’s past arrives and dregs up painful memories and feelings.
I’ve loved going back to the beginning with these guys, to be reminded of where it all began, the struggles, fears, watching them fall in love all over again. To see Josh starting to trust Gabe, taking a leap into a relationship. I love how they love each other, took care of each other – meeting the family. We really see them move forward.
The mystery is not resolved in this book and that part kind of ends on a cliffhanger. For those of you (me included) that like to have answers when the book ends, this might just make you a little nuts, especially if you wait for the next audiobook to be produced and released.
It’s no surprise that Joel Leslie did a fantastic job narrating this story. The voices, accents, pacing and feels is there just like we’ve all come to expect. I do wish he’d really go nuts with Savage’s voice, but alas you can’t get everything. I do love his voice for Josh. It’s spot on and fits with his character. It has the sass, the flair and impersonates everything that makes Josh, Josh.
This is a series that definitely should be enjoyed in audio, and if you haven’t already, go back and start at the beginning because you don’t want to miss a single second of Gabe and Josh.
