This books seems like it will be dumb, it seems like the author is making character and plot choices on a bet. It seems like it shouldn’t work, but it does.

I was recommended this book and looking at the description and the basic summary I was given from a friend had me concerned that this book was gonna be lackluster, but it started out fine if not amazing. Then there are some things that befall the main character than seemed pointlessly silly and my expectations lowered. Then at some point I had bought the third book and was waiting on the fourth.

It’s a good story. It’s a LitRPG and has some of the trappings that you expect from that genre. It’s a bit of newer trope and for me getting into the story has a bit of the, ‘I know, but just go with me here’ feel that other genres like cyberpunk or fantasy stories set in the modern world get a bit of a pass on, but the story is worth getting into.

If you like sci-fi and fantasy for the stories, I think you are who this story is for.

That said: If you like fantasy for the magic systems, there’s some interesting stuff to ponder. If you like sci-fi for the philosophical underpinnings, this has got a touch of that for you too, though less than for the magic system guys to start.
