I picked up a Roak book as a free promo listen some time ago and loved it. I mean, what’s not to love. Roak is the quintessential lone wolf bad-ass gallivanting about the universe doing jobs and collecting his chits. He really wants everyone to believe that he cares for no one and nothing. Except that’s not really what’s at the core of his being.

This book is our first introduction to the scarred warrior and it’s probably the darkest one in the series. I had started with Infinite Mayhem, which still kind of makes sense even without the back story. But I liked the characters so much that I wanted, actually needed, to hear the back story.

Some of my favorite characters don’t appear in this book, but there is still plenty of action, adventure and Roak snark to go around.

Oh, and I love Andrew Wehrlen’s narration. He is Roak to me and I would be very saddened if future books do not feature his talent.

If you like Clint Eastwood’s man with no name or other antiheroes of that ilk, you’ll like Roak. Give it a listen.
