This apocalypse is believable and interesting. I appreciated how he lays out the federal response at the beginning. As brutal and terrifying as it is I can’t imagine doing it differently. It’s clear that a great amount of detail and forethought was put into the response at various levels of society.

One BIG issue I’ve got is that the only truly evil people so far are the ‘gangbangers’. Hearing an old White guy writing their dialogue and perspective, and then hearing an old White guy voicing them is excruciating.

Given that militias are both better armed and have training, (weekend warrior-ish though it may be), I’d imagine the militias are just as or even more dangerous than inner city gangs. I can easily imagine that far right white nationalist militias would be the greater evil, especially once the cities empty out for lack of resources.

The morality the author leans on is pretty black and white as well. There are good guys and bad guys. If it weren’t for one of the main characters being a ‘good’ black guy I would’ve thought this was written by a White Nationalist/Nazi (they’re the same thing). But then again, having one token good black guy/family suggests a pretty ridiculous proportion of good black/brown people to bad black/brown gangbangers.
