This audiobook was AMAZING! Both due to the author’s content and to the outstanding performance by Joel Leslie. What a great pairing these two gifted storytellers make!
I have gay friends who are of an age with Nick and Andy and others who are about ten years younger and this story burrowed deep into my heart as I imagined them in these roles. What was it like to be a gay man in the fifties? the sixties? For that matter, even the seventies and eighties. These men were pioneers in the very early days of the equality movement as they simply wanted to live their lives with the man they loved.
This story is a love story. A hard won, beautifully portrayed, emotional, sweet and yet powerfully moving love story. There’s so much I could say but I won’t. This needs to be appreciated by each individual reader or listener. We all bring our own experiences and “stuff” to the table and our perspectives may differ, but this is one of those tales that needs to be told and I am most happy that I listened. Kudos! All the stars!
