I did listen through the whole trilogy, but it was not great. The writing was so-so, lots of little anachronisms and such but not terrible. Not vivid or compelling, either. The characters were a bit flat and the story nothing special, but again it wasn’t terrible. I’ve read a lot of very disparate takes on the fantasy tropes we’ve all come to know and love. This one was right down the middle. Regular kid discovers special powers, then finds out he’s no regular kid after all and saves the world. The narrator didn’t have great range, which didn’t help much. It’s not so bad I would return it, as I have other books, but there are better uses of the hours.
