Maybe I’m spoiled at this point from the abundance of good offerings in this genre, but this series doesn’t cut it. The only saving grace is that it is read by Jeff Hays. The author repeatedly tries to cover lazy writing with snark and profanity. I’m a fan of snark and witty banter from an MC, but this was a sloggfest. Towards the end I was skipping through entire chapters just to be done with the story. There was an idea behind this book. I think the author forgot what it was in book 2. Lazy writing and plot armor ensues.
