I absolutely loved every minute of this twisted journey. This was my first Andrew Van Wey’s books and will not be my last.
In Forsaken, we follow an art restoration professor, Dan-eye-yule (I’m spelling it out, cause he hates it 🙃) Rhinehart, as his life turns from a typical daily hussle into complete madness. This story gave me the obsessive vibes of “The Number 23” (a favorite movie of mine) while keeping me on my toes through each page. Everytime I thought I knew where the story was going, another odd occurrence happened that had me questioning both mine and Daniel’s sanity.
I don’t want to say much as there is many layers to this tale and if I say too much I could reveal some secrets hidden between the pages. But, I will say, the tagline for this book tells you EXACTLY what the pages hide, “A novel of art, evil, and insanity.”
I could have easily read this 396 pages within an evening, but instead I took my time and listened to every moment of this 11 hr 41 minute audiobook, because TJ was able to bring AVW’s words to life in such a wonderful way. I will say my only complaint about the audio was the “entity’s” voice. It felt a little strange compared to the other tones used throughout, but not enough to distract me away.
I will say, this story may not be for everyone, but Andrew Van Wey has pulled a Kristopher Triana with this one, and created a fabulous character that I LOVED to HATE! They had my teeth clenching and fist shaking, while absolutely devouring this characters plotline.
5 ☆ will be looking for more AVW & TJ
