Another solid Smith book in her Alliance series. Edge is alive and being tortured and held prisoner in a space station deep in Waxian territory. Lina and her fellow band of Human women escaped enslavement, but are trapped on that same space station. They help Edge escape, hoping he can pilot the ship they’ve appropriated so they can get back home. Only thing- Lina has bad memories associated with seeing Edge back on Earth; and he can’t just detox his interrogation drugs.
If you’re a Smith fan, you’ll enjoy references to Kassis and Elpidios, the crystal ship, high power energy, and cloaking technology.
Big hints at the end that there were sparks flying between Lina’s fellow female escapees and Edge’s fellow Trivators. Amates everywhere. More Alliance books to look forward to!
Brenin is, of course, a solid narrator.
